Sugar Cravings Reduced
Sugar cravings are one of the horror stories I often hear from clients. And, unfortunately sugar cravings are usually just a step away from hypoglycemia, insulin resistance, Metabolic Syndrome, Syndrome X, and Type 2 Diabetes. How does this happen?
Our body is not well equipped to lower blood sugar except in an emergency. And never before in the history of mankind have we had such emergency needs to lower blood sugar. Starting in the early 1970’s we replaced fat in our food with sugars and high fructose corn syrup and suddenly sugar cravings began. We are inundating our bodies with sugar and refined carbohydrates. The average American eats at least 196 pounds of refined sugar a year – partially due to sugar cravings. It’s a vicious cycle and our bodies are not genetically designed to handle that much sugar.
Sugar Cravings and Nutrient Deficiences
Consumption of refined sugars causes severe deficiencies in the nutrients that regulate blood sugar, especially the B-vitamins and thiamine (B1) in particular. This causes even more carbohydrate and sugar cravings. Most people I see in my practice are sick and tired of being sick and tired. They are exhausted because sugar cravings are controlling their food decisions. I know that when we get their sugar cravings under control we can decrease the chance of more serious medical issues. Plus, once they get the “white stuff” out of their diet and balance their systems they have so much more energy and stamina.
Sugar Cravings – The Biochemistry
For the biochemistry geeks, here is a short description of the insulin response mechanism that takes place when we eat a meal. Our cells are all about burning glucose for fuel. After every meal, blood glucose levels increase, how high depends on what we have eaten. Excess glucose stimulates beta cells in the pancreas to produce insulin. Glucose is unable to get into the cells without insulin to act as a key to unlock the insulin receptor sites. This triggers transporters within the cells to allow glucose in.
If insulin levels are low the cell will put out more receptor sites in order to trap any available glucose (think hypoglycemia). If you have too much glucose in the blood stream, the pancreas starts to produce copious amounts of insulin and the cell goes, “Wait! I can’t handle all this sugar you’re taking in!” It pulls back receptors to lessen the amount of sugar that can get into the cell because it is simply overwhelmed. This leads to insulin resistance. The cells become resistant to all the insulin in the blood stream and eventually the pancreas wears out. Medically, we develop Metabolic Syndrome and eventually we end up with Type 2 Diabetes, if the system isn’t balanced.
Sugar Craving Reduction – The Solution
The key to removing sugar cravings is cleaning up the diet and decreasing sugar consumption. But, anyone who has tried giving up sugar cold-turkey knows to expect withdrawals, headaches, nausea, and even more sugar cravings. One of the support products I’ve found very helpful to help decrease sugar cravings while cleaning up the diet is Bio-Glycozyme Forte. This is a broad-spectrum product that supports normal, healthy glycemic function. It provides phosphorylated forms of B1, B2, and B6 to help regulate blood sugar. It offers mineral support with zinc and magnesium to increase energy levels without sweets or sugar cravings. It includes the trace elements chromium and vanadium, glandulars, and amino acids in a terrific antioxidant vegetable base tablet. So it helps relieve fatigue and stress as well as sugar cravings.
I’ve found the best dosage to be 2 tablets mid-morning between breakfast and lunch, and 2 tablets mid-afternoon between lunch and dinner. Depending on dinner time, some people have also found it helpful to take 2 tablets 2 hours after dinner, but the extra energy may make it difficult to fall asleep for some people. Best to test the after dinner tablets on a night when you don’t have to get up early.
To help reduce and remove sugar cravings, while removing sweeteners from your diet, try Bio-Glycozyme Forte.
